4. What plans and new directions do you intend to pursue in 2009?

Arkansas Extension plans in 2009 include

- Avaya telephone system software upgrade

- Go live of portal

- Implementation of Luminis CMS

- Rollout of GW Mobile

- Upgrade of state office bandwidth

- Start of infrastructure upgrade to connect to Lambda Rail and I2

- Completion of Oracle conversions and 10G upgrades

- Payroll DR test


Texas AgriLife IT plans in 2009 include

- Reorganize IT unit to include enhanced support for the Research and Teaching components of the Texas AgriLife programs.

- Continue rollout of Content Management System

- Implement a server virtualization / consolidation project

- Evaluate options for program wide email, calendaring, address book system

- Evaluate Help Desk / Call Center operation

- Upgrade infrastructure at outdated Research Centers

- Evaluate and upgrade data circuit speeds to off campus locations


OSU Extension IT plans in 2009 include:

- Install videoconferencing systems at selected sites (statewide)

- Consolidate and update program activity reporting system and program and staff development (in-service) system

- Explore opportunities to enhance existing training programs


NCSU Extension IT plans in 2009 include:

- Continue to install wireless solution

- Continue to develop One-Stop Shop components

- Implement a new network infrastructure and storage solution

- Pursue video conferencing

- Develop desktop system hardware replacement plan

- Provide training for university's projected move to Groupwise calendar


University of Kentucky

--Exploring the use of VPN solutions for counties to give them better access to Campus resources(Active Directory).

--Working to implement web 2.0 technologies for the College and CES, through the use of wikis, blogs, MS SharePoint, Google Docs and other related technologies.

--Continue to encourage the use of Centra and related technologies.

--Complete migration of all College web applications to a single login(AD).

--Move forward with support for Windows Vista and investigate other OS/Hardware options such as Mac OS/Apple.

--Implementing the use of VMware Server to maximize College server resources.

--Complete the upgrade of the College data center.


Alabama Cooperative Extension System

  • More fully implement various features of MS SharePoint 2007. Specifically, evaluate the following possibilities:
    • Move county web sites to SharePoint for content management
    • Redesign our Intranet site using SharePoint
  • Expand distance learning activities within Extension and the AU College of Agriculture
  • Migrate our mail list software from Majordomo to Mailman


LSU AgCenter IT plans in 2009 include:

  • Hyper V - Implement Microsoft Hyper V for Windows server virtualization
  • SharePoint - Expand SharePoint implementation to include all of the current Intranet
  • OpenID – further integrate OpenID with existing systems that require non-institutional access
  • GIS – expand a full array of GIS services to the organization and provide access to GIS resources statewide
  • Social Media – further explore the integration of popular social media applications and begin to train faculty and staff on their use and benefits
  • HD Compressed Video – further expand compressed video sites that have HD capabilities
  • Unified Communications – implement MS Office Communications Server 2007 as the unified communications solution for the organization
  • Less Paper Office Initiative – continue to replace paper HR, Accounting, and Grants/Contracts with electronic versions to reduce paper and allow for remote working arrangements
  • 4-H Website - Revamping 4-H Web presence from top-down to appeal to a youth including the production of Flash-based games for kids and social media for teens
  • AgSummary - Rewrite of statewide AgSummary/Economic Development reporting system
  • HR Database - Complete revamp of HR database
  • eCommerce – continue to flesh out a consolidated organization-wide eCommerce solution for selling products and services and accepting donations online.
  • Mobility – Increased efforts in working remotely by further providing smart phones, internet connectivity options, and training in mobile telecommunications for field staff
  • Consolidated reporting – Build consolidated reporting system for federal reports that reduce duplication of effort in terms of data entry by faculty and staff
