2009 ACE-NETC unSession
From Extension Collaborative Wiki
2009 ACE-NETC unSession (Tuesday, 2:30 & 3:30pm)
This unstructured session is modeled using an "unconference" theme. The content, presentations, and presenters will be determined by the first day of the conference through solicitation of ideas and the use of a wiki. Because of changing environments, emerging technologies, our experiences within our organizations, and what we learn cannot be easily predicted, this session gives conference participants the ability to present the newest ideas and findings. All registered conference participants have opportunities to contribute and present in this session. This unstructured session helps ensure that ideas being discussed and presented are relevant, and timely.
Post your ideas for the unsession. Include title, description, presenter, and preferred time slot (2:30 or 3:30).

Title: Copy the New York Times to tell your story
Description: I enjoy the narrated slideshows featured on the New York Times travel pages. I mentioned this to our web tech person and he showed me a simple way to tell our story using the same idea. How can you use SoundSlide as one of your storytelling tools? I’ll incorporate a quick SoundSlide of one of the events at ACE/NETC.
Presenter: Barb McBreen
Title: Clickers: The Next Wave?
Description: Clickers, or audience response systems, can move a class or meeting from passive to active learning with the click of a button. BlackBerrys, iPhones, iPods and web-based polling will utilize student owned devices and allow remote participants and distance education students to join in the fun. After a short video demonstration, participants in this session will be encouraged to share innovative ways clickers are being used in Extension or teaching and explore some of the what’s next possibilities as this technology goes mobile.
Presenter: Allan Schmidt

Title: Virtual Conferencing Alternatives for Extension Professionals
Description: Extension IT professionals are frequently approached by colleagues and administrators about wanting to set up a virtual conference, and do so at minimal cost. Various conferencing tools are available both within Extension and in the commercial market that provide a wide range of possibilities. This session would discuss some of those available, as well as solicit suggestions on others we might want to describe in a proposed Conferees Guide to Effective Virtual Conferencing.

Title: How can Cooperative Extension put an end to its all-rights-reserved copyright madness?
Description: How is it that the Land-Grant University system, affectionately known as the "people's university," has got copyright so wrong? Just twenty years ago everything produced by Cooperative Extension was released into the public domain. Now, everything is licensed all-rights-reserved. This happened with little conversation and debate. Now, the world is demanding open licenses. The new NIH open-access mandate is but one example of the public demanding unfettered accesss to taxpayer funded research. What needs to happen to move Cooperative Extension to the people's side of this issue? What can ACE/NETC members do to advance this agenda?

Title: How Can Ning Groups Be Used By Agents to Work With Their Clientele?
Description: Most County Agents/Educators work with many groups that are already formed. Introducing them to Ning can help them improve their internal communications as well as communicating with potential members and others. By Extension introducing them to these tools, we can be seen as more 'current' and less 'stuck in the traditional' way of doing things. Ning groups can be a good first step into social networking for those who aren't quite ready for FaceBook level of openness.
