6. What is your description of scholarship in extension?

Georgia

The development of new knowledge in the science of agriculture, FACS or youth development. Also the development of new educational programs, curriculum, methodology, or participant engagement that allows for improved methods of knowledge transfer from the university to the people.

Virginia

Excellence in teaching, research, and Extension (outreach) is achieved by committed faculty. Scholarly activity is a creative work that is peer reviewed and publicly disseminated. There are several basic forms of scholarship, which are: • Discovery of new knowledge; • Development of new technologies, methods, materials, or uses; and • Integration of knowledge leading to new understanding.

Texas

Extension scholarship is broadly defined as the ability to provide clientele with research based information that will result in measurable programmatic outcomes.

Tennessee

Tennessee defines scholarship as development of Extension courses, writing publications, being published in scholarly journals, and applied research,


Clemson Extension

Extension Scholarship is loosely defined as creative and useful Extension-mission based performance that is peer reviewed and disseminated. At Clemson, the interpretation of this definition, and what constitutes as "scholarship", tends to vary between departments. Extension Agents at Clemson are not classified as faculty nor are placed in tenure track positions.

LSU AgCenter

Ongoing involvement with emerging research and its application to Extension programming. Involvement in conducting research and interpreting results to stay current with methodology and review of literature.

Oklahoma
Scholarship is viewed as development of peer reviewed articles along in combination with innovative Extension delivery methods. As in other states, what is considered scholarly can vary between departments.

Mississipp

Professional development that is utilized to provide timely, relevant, and up-to-date information to Extension's diverse clientele.
