10. Is your state making any special effort in urban extension programming? If so please describe the efforts being made.
Georgia
Georgia has supported in Urban Initiative for several years. This initiative allowed agents in urban counties to attend an annual conference where networking and urban programming workshops were offered. Funding for this initiative is currently on hold due to budget reductions. Georgia supported two agents and one district director to attend this year’s National Urban Conference.

Texas
Texas has a very aggressive Urban program. Texas has a Urban Program Director who provide programmatic leadership to Urban programs and seven County Extension Directors in the 7 urban counties. Urban programmatic initiative focuses on identifying issues impacting urban audiences, designing innovative educational interventions, and developing appropriate program delivery methods that will most effectively reach urban audiences. In Texas one of the District Research and Extension Centers in the Dallas/Fort Worth area has been designated as the Urban Solutions Center to serve as is a gateway to science, researchers and Extension educators across the U.S.

Louisiana pays urban parish chairs and agents slightly higher in some cases. The state has an urban contact who actively encourages agents to take advantage of regional & national urban conferences.
Oklahoma
We contine to discuss methods to improve visibility and programming in urban areas as well as seeking outside funds to help in this area.
Alabama
The Alabama Cooperative Extension System has an Urban Affairs and New Nontraditional Programs Unit that provides comprehensive programming across all content areas of Extension outreach. The Unit offers traditional, nontraditional, and new and emerging programs and delivery approaches in order to meet the needs of Alabama citizens wherever they live and work. The focus, however, is to meet the needs of urban and suburban communities to improve their quality of life. The overall mission of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System’s Urban Affairs and New Nontraditional Programs Unit is to provide learning opportunities to meet the needs of all urban and nontraditional audiences with a specific focus on limited resource families, under-served audiences, individuals and small enterprises.
