While there are many facets to every 4-H club, there are some very fundamental concepts that serve as the foundation for every 4-H club. Club development requires members, volunteers, and projects/activities. While this may appear to be relatively simple, their interelationship is much more complex. One can argue that finding members is the easiest part of this three-part concept. Kids are easily attracted to programs that are fun, interactive, and provide for social interactions with their peers. Volunteers, or adults willing to support the interests and activities of these youth, are much more difficult to recruit. However, the proper skills can make one volunteer much more effective than ten untrained volunteers. Volunteer development is another topic altogether, but clearly club development depends heavily on volunteers. The final concept in club development focuses on projects or activities. These serve as the delivery system for learning and interactivity between and among youth and adults.
