June 1999 Report to the ACE Board
Submitted by
Clyde Porterfield Jr., Chair
Having the SIG Leaders Handbook was a tremendous help in meeting the responsibilities of Chair of the SIG. It also made it easy to divide some responsibilities with the Vice Chair and include the Vice Chair Elect in decisions.
The duties fall into these groups:
Projects C&A Communications with members Other awards Reports to Board
Projects
There was one project proposed to develop a database or archive of Information Technology Job Descriptions: A pilot of this project has been completed . Four job descriptions have been coded and put on the SIG WEB. Due to the lack of response by members to supply job descriptions, I recommend that all job descriptions sent to the ACE Job Board be coded and placed in an archive by the ACE staff ( I think these are being coded now, so it would not be extra except to put in an archive). There was little int erest in projects by the group.
C&A
This area takes up the most time. A committee reviewed the C&A classes and made recommendations to the Board. A new class 41, Web Site was announced. There were 18 entrants in this class. Last year we had 9 entrants for all classes. This year that increased to 27.
Finding judges may take time so don't wait until the last minute. Thanks to Kim Parker I was able to get:
Dr. Roger Crouse Director, Information Technology Services Trinity College of Vermont 208 Colchester Ave. Burlington, VT 05401 rcrouse@charity.trinityvt.edu 802/658-0337 ext. 275
He had served a couple of times in years past. All other former judges had moved or in one case had joined ACE. We need help in identifying good judges.
Communication with members:
It was good to send out lots of welcome messages to new members. Responses to messages sent to the listserv were few. The listserv provides a quick and easy means to keep membership up to date on SIG activities. Other Awards:
This year we had 3 excellent nominations for the Award of Excellence. The SIG leadership as a committee chose Beth Rainey, from Penn State to receive this award.
Reports to Board:
The September report slips up on you in a hurry. There are a number of calendar events that need to be taken care of for this report. I think some of these should be handled during the SIG business meeting at the annual meeting.
Thanks for your support during the past year. Please give Linda, Ron, and Dave your support. Your responses to issues are very helpful to your leadership team. You do make a difference.
