ACE SIG Meeting Minutes 2008-07-15

SIG Director Larry Jackson began the meeting welcoming the representatives from these attending SIGs: Diversity, Electronic Media, Graphic Design, Information Technology, International, Leadership and Management, Marketing, Media Relations, Publishing, Research, and Writing.
Jackson announced that the Graphic Design SIG has a new vice-chair-elect: Roben Jefferson, of UNL. He reminded the group that now is the time for SIG officers to discuss the division of responsibilities for keeping the SIGs moving forward and not placing the burden on the Chair only.
Jackson remind the group of upcoming deadlines, preparation for which should begin immediately:
- September 26 - Fall Report and Annual Action Plan (to SIG Director - see forms on pp. 16 & 63 of the new SIG Leaders Handbook)
- September 26 - Proposed revisions to C&A program (to Pres. Elect and Coordinator)
- October 20 - Names and bios of proposed C&A judges (to Coordinator)

The group was reminded that the SIGs should begin discussing any ideas for pre- or post-conference workshops or activities for the 2009 meeting in Des Moines. Publishing and Writing may pool resources for a workshop.
There was a question about providing HQ the names of back-up judges; it was recommended that back-ups be identified, but HQ notified only if needed. It was also confirmed that SIG meetings could include a guest speaker.
Jackson reminded the attendees that comments or suggestions for the ACE Board of Directors should be provided him before the next board meeting, which begins October 13th.
The Writing and Graphic Design SIGs agreed to report on the August 19th conference call. Electronic Media agreed to report during the September 16th call.
The next conference call will be Tuesday, August 19, 2008, at 2p ET/11a PT.
