CES Second Life Educators:2008-05-08

We had hoped to have someone speak about Teen Second Life, but the speaker is not available at this time. Instead, we'll put our heads together and come up with a list of meet-up topics for the rest of the year, and talk about the format for those. Participants: Erin Bauer, Larry Havenstein (K State), Melody Jones (CSU-Douglas County), Brian Webster, LuAnn Phillips, Beth Raney,

Purpose: Advanced use of eXtension resources, processes in SL, network with other Extension SL users and share info, learn new skills in SL

Structure: Begin at 11:30 (SL Time = Pacific Time). Social time 11:30-11:45. Program at 11:45-12:30. Optional Q&A and Networking 12:30-1:00.

Location: In Second Life, Linden Labs, San Francisco CA -- infers Pacific Time Zone better.

Meet-Up Ideas:

  • Tutorials/training
    • Orientation
    • Basic Building
  • Field Trips
  • Sessions for New SL participants
  • Shorter sessions (30 Min)
  • have one person presenting, and another technical buddy to help with teleporting, voice, etc.
  • Announce topic for each session
  • Searching
  • Communications (IM vs Chat, etc.)
  • How to find a person
  • How to find people in a group
  • Alternate training topics with field trip/event
  • Regular date of month for Orientation session
  • Quality builds
  • International Space Museum


Gap Issues:

  • Not enough time to practice
  • If a person gets "lost" don't know how to get back to the group
  • Need someone to ask a question
  • Need added to the Cooperative Extension group (add names that people can contact to be added or find out more)

  • Try to use voice for presentations at Meet-Ups so easier to follow conversation

Encourage our group to add to the page at Land-Grant University Locations in Second Life about work being done in SL by our universities.
