Creating Links in MediaWiki - external transcript
From Extension Collaborative Wiki
Following is a transcript of the screencast:
The next section on linking demonstrates use of external links. Those are the links to a page on another website. In this example, we want to create a link so that the Technorati site address is behind the scenes. This will make the article more easy to read.
Click Edit. To create the correct format for the wiki mark-up for external link, we’re moving the URL for Technorati to before the text it goes with. Select the URL and the words Technorati The Web’s Blogging Authority. It’s important that the descriptive text that goes with the URL uses your keywords from the title, when possible.
On the toolbar, click the external links button. It has an earth icon on it. For an external link, you’ll notice the wiki mark-up adds a single bracket before and after the section you had selected; so, before the URL and after the descriptive text. Add a summary comment, and Save.
