Creating your MediaWiki user page is easy, and provides you a good opportunity to introduce you to the basics of creating content in the wiki. It is also your place to share your contact information, your areas of interest, and links to the work you’ll be doing as part of the course. It is also a place for you to have conversations with other course participants, as well as to share your activities.

Before you can create your user page, you must first log in. To do this, you click on the Log in text in the top right hand corner of your screen. Select the user name text box, enter your user name, press tab, and enter your password, followed by pressing the log in button.

After logging in, you will be presented with your blank user page. You press the edit text box, to begin entering your personal information. With the edit window open, you are ready to begin entering your personal information. So start off by entering your name, then enter your title, followed by enter again, two times, to create another blank line. Then enter your email address, again followed by a blank line. When you are done entering content, scroll to the bottom of the page, and click in the summary box. Be sure to press the save page button at the bottom of the page, to save your work.

Your talk page is a place where people on the wiki can leave you personal messages. In order to access it, you simply click on the my talk text box. This will take you to your talk page, where to respond to a comment, or leave him another message, you simply click on edit. Here you would type in the text box, just as you did when you created your personal user page. One exception when working in your talk page, or any talk page in the wiki, is after completing your comment, you generally want to put your signature on it, so you can see who made the comment and what time they made the comment. To do that you click on the icon above the text box that has the little signature in it.

And that’s all there is to it. We’ll look forward to your creating your user pages, and to the opportunity to converse with you on your talk pages in the near future. Be sure to contact us, if you need any assistance at all.
