High Plains IPM Guide Authors meeting, Fort Collins February 12, 2007.

Objectives: To review, track and evaluate the development of the High Plains IPM guide (HPIPM Guide), acquaint new authors, discuss relationships with eXtension and diagnostic networks, plot future goals and outline steps to attain these goals.

Secondary Objectives: Use the HPIPM wiki to plan and record the meeting and start a HPIPM Guide author resource with thoughts of creating a Official eXtension CoP "High Plains IPM" Wiki.

Linkage between AgAlerts and High Plains IPM, provide another delivery of HPIPM. What are AgAlerts? Check out www.gpdn.org, Active AgAlerts. WebTrend reporting, improvements and future User group evaluations.

Minutes 07: Web trends reports demonstration. Should we involve western KS? Contact Eric DeWolff? Western ND?

10:00 Article update status, The Movers and the Slackers: New HPIPM Resources page organization (Author Directions, Updating Directions) Minutes 07: Finding pesticide registrations: CDMS; greenbook.com; Agrisearch; NDSU

10:30 (Break) 10:45 Identify Orphaned articles and assign new owners: Minutes 07: Orphaned articles – authors took responsibility for chapters (see Guide resources). Start a revision cycle (3 yr?) coordinated by Will Lanier to bug us; update date if okay. Deadline to meet or purged!

1:00 pm Suggestions for New Articles: Possibility of peer review (not by authors) so articles are accurate across the whole region. For example, I don't write the corn chapter but I need to know that it is applicable to Nebraska.

Suggestions for New Chapters: Mary Burrows, Could we add a Camellina crop section? I’d like to prepare two disease fact sheets. Minutes 07: Add Camelina chapter, think about soybean, switchgrass and other forage/oilseed crops as they have problems. Need resources for nursery crops and sod production: Regional proposal (WRIPM, EPA region 8). Hire someone (potentially Nina Zidack, MSU) to create resources and get money for IT updates New "Environmental Causes" section for each index (crop type e.g. small Grains).

Embed links to other sites in text of fact sheets – authors are responsible for checking if they are ‘lively’ in each revision Include state-specific recommendations for fungicides, etc. in a ‘comments’ section on each fact sheet; especially chemical registrations. Chapters for non-commercial crops – separate links for homeowners/master gardeners? New articles on environmental effects/abiotic? As needed. 3:30 Funding Sources Minutes 07: Self-promotion of HPIPM resources: Business cards, promotional materials a. Distribute promotional packet with CD to pesticide industry, agents, CCAs, Department of Ag, Rocky Mountain. b. Get articles featuring us written in trade magazines, newspapers, articles by extension publications – ‘Don’t get caught with your plants down: Read the High Plains IPM…’ c. Distribute fact sheets at meetings. d. AgAlerts to raise awareness of updated sheets.

4:00 Demo of Wheat Symptoms Multi Access key as a Novel HPIPM Guide Index Minutes 07: Demonstration of Wiki (eXtension) to track comments and changes; not have to manage e-mail list; tool to establish ourselves as a ‘highplains’ resource group – mixed reactions; Will will beta test us by tracking this meeting.
