Colleagues, thanks for your participation in this conference call. The best time for 12 of us is Wed, Oct 15 at 10 am central time. I will be emailing you with a phone number to call in to. Please mark your calendars. We will be reviewing our goals set in May and updating on where we stand in this work. I am outlining th goals set from last May, also see details attached. All the best, Mary Specific Strategies or Priorities of Work Identified May 1-2, 2008

Contents

1. Master Gardener IPM Curriculum

   a. Pesticide safety, already done and out there
   b. Positive benefits of IPM, including definition and understanding

needs development, Wyoming has this, handed out at meeting

Goal: Survey NC region members and develop learning objectives to create a MG IPM module that focuses on the philosophy, principles and practices of IPM, which will include pesticide safety. A stand alone intro chapter for NC region. Possibly identify advanced MG topics to teach, such as biological control. Lead People: Julie, Ron and Dean

2. Goal: Purchase NGA Environmental Survey

easy, Mary can purchase

Get baseline data on the public and their knowledge of pests, IPM, pesticides, and plant care. Possibly use the Q on their survey for Turning Point

3. Goal: Set up a listserve for us

add members from other states and

add our member lit to NC IPM Center newsletter list.

4. Turning Point or Survey Monkey

   a. Use in MG Training, esp in diagnostics
Pretest at beginning of Core Course
Posttest at end of Core Course

Use at annual or regional conferences

Impact: Improve the environment by training MG to be environmental stewards in their communities and by teaching others ? Goal: i. to have a brief regional, online easy access questionnaire to measure specific IPM knowledge of MG ii. to use the same NGA questions to measure MG knowledge compared to general public

Public: gathering information on IPM status
   Master Gardeners measuring their knowledge
   Tool for measuring our teaching

We identified several things under this goal. GOAL: Dean, Pam, Carol Pilcher, Tom Bartholomay (? We do not know if Tom can do this) to develop goals for what we want to measure by asking questions, then write questions; strive for first draft of questions by Sept.

5. Marketing our IPM info in a new way:

Green Smart or Yard Smart or Garden Smart

Green OR Garden Smart Lawns, Fruits, Trees and Shrubs, Vegetable Care

General information as well as check list for home gardeners to rate their yards and yard care

Michelle, Monica; Mary to contact Dan Lineberger

Goal: Evaluation of Earth-Kind webpage for what we could use in NC region

Prioritize our needs: a. Challenge for home gardener test, compare to Texas list currently up, Celeste and Rhoda will help here also

b. Handout for promotion of the website, magnet, button, hand lens, or some promo item that is usable: how green is your garden? How Earth-Kind is your garden?

Next Steps: Work on priorities as listed above, communicate via listserve, meet via phone/Breeze conference call in September.
