Growing a Generation of IT Leaders
Presenters: Susan West Klein and Stan North Martin, NC State University Office of Information Technology
Today’s technology leaders have come to their positions through a variety of paths—paths that reflect the many facets of technology as well as the youth of our profession. As today’s technology leaders, we are still defining our own roles, as well as the roles of our organizations within our broader enterprise. Looking ahead, we need to equip our organizations to be successful; this includes planning for (and growing) the next generation of technology leaders. This discussion will give us all a chance to think about what we’re doing (or not doing) to develop a new generation of people who can take our organizations successfully into the future.
To begin thinking about the presentation, here are a few questions that will be provided at your table to discuss during lunch:
- Does what you studied in college have a direct connection to what you do today?
- Of all of the people at your table, whose career path is the most unusual?
- How did you learn about the business of Extension?
- What leadership resources have you found to be helpful?
