OIE Instructional Designer/Multimedia and Programming Support

eXtension is seeking applications for:

  • an instructional designer to work with university subject matter specialists to redesign an existing financial management online curriculum;
  • a multimedia specialist and programming support to implement the curriculum redesign.


The goal is to improve the educational effectiveness of the curriculum while applying appropriate multimedia and instructional technologies.

eXtension is an Internet-based educational and information system developed by the national Cooperative Extension System; http://www.extension.org. Content and services are provided by Communities of Practice, virtual networks of subject matter content providers consisting of faculty, professional and para-professional staff, county educators, industry experts, clientele and government agency representation who share knowledge or competence in a specific content area and are willing to work and learn together over a period of time to further develop and share that knowledge in forms of educational products and programs.

The content to be redesigned, "Investing for Your Future" (http://www.extension.org/pages/Investing_for_Your_Future) was developed by the Financial Security Community of Practice, a virtual community of over 200 members from Land-Grant Universities in 44 states and one territory. Members are organized in three major subject matter areas - Financial Security in Later Life, Financial Literacy for Youth, and Financial Stability. Resources for the redesign are being made possible through a special grant award.

The instructional designer selected to redesign this curriculum will be expected to attend an organizational meeting May 12 & 13 in Alexandria, VA; all costs will be paid by eXtension. The instructional designer and the multimedia designer/programmer will work closely with a designated content specialist or team of content specialists during the redesign and implementation process.

Redesign of the content is dependent upon the receipt of related market analysis, but should begin no later than July 2008. Redesign of the content should be completed by September 2008 with the redesigned and implemented curriculum completed by February 2009.
