SRPLN Family and Consumer Sciences Committee 2009 Accomplishment Report

Committees are asked to answer these three questions by Thursday, August 27th. Be brief. The goal is to limit the report to one page.

1. What has your committee accomplished together in the last year as a result of PLN?

• A total of four conference calls engaged Program Leaders in discussions addressing CECP, obesity, funding opportunities, and other relevant educational outreach programs. • The Family and Consumer Sciences Committee held a spring meeting in Washington, DC and the FCS leaders attended the Board on Human Sciences meeting. • The Family and Consumer Sciences Committee will co-sponsor the Southern Obesity Conference in Austin, TX on October 4 - 6, 2009. • The Family and Consumer Sciences Committee developed and submitted the Nutrition Logic Model and quality modules for CCEP. • Families, Food, and Fitness was funded as an eXtension Community of Practice. • The 40th Anniversary Celebration of EFNEP was held in Washington, DC and in Southern Region states. Southern Region program leaders served on the National Planning Committee for the event.

2. What has your committee accomplished together that it could not have accomplished without PLN?

• MittNet was launched nationwide and led by Arkansas. • The Food Safety Community of Practice was led by Specialist, Dr. Jean Weese at Auburn University. • A caregiver’s proposal was submitted to USDA/Rural Health by Southern University and Auburn University Cooperative Extension and the Auburn University School of Nursing.

3. Please give a few examples of specific benefits to individual states.
