Shared Expectations

  • Act as a steering committee, AND be willing to row or lead/do as appropriate.
  • Engage others in subcommittees, as appropriate.
  • Commit to using eXtension (and other ways of engaging online) ourselves, and trying the professional development options.
  • It's OK not to know everything, and OK not to buy into every concept and tool.
  • Embrace creativity and think outside the box.
  • Give each other grace; be patient with each other. We’re aiming at a moving target!
  • Lead by example; try out the tools available on eXtension as well as additional applications outside our comfort zone.

Insights on Change Implementation

  • Expect resistance. Break down walls with persistence (including walls within the MSU system).
  • Recognize that we're implementing a process and mindset change, not technology.
  • Be aware that change is incremental. Let's follow the 80/20 rule: We aim to help 80% of colleagues change 20%. (We can also pilot initiatives where we aim for 20% of colleagues to change 80%).
  • Everyone learns differently, so look for different entry points.
  • Be sensitive to 'low' users. Break things into small, easy steps. Use the phone when necessary and consider face to face as a viable option in some situations.
