Establish Logic Model

  • Define goals & measurable objectives (impacts & outcomes)for use of and participation in eXtension
  • Establish metrics that we care about

Possible Goals

    • 80% of staff have eXtension ID
    • 50% of staff have CoP membership and participate
    • 50% of staff take at least one PD course through eXtension
    • 50 % of staff participate in AaE
    • 50 % of 'county' websites have an AaE widget
    • Staff create at least 10 collaborative groups in eXtension on topics of relevance
    • All staff with eXtension ID have cell cards


Market & Promote

  • Have a web/portal page with testimonial blogs about eXtension to raise awareness & encourage use
  • Develop a marketing plan for eXtension; business cards
  • Launch a communication plan, with multiple communication mechanisms
  • Create a "What's in it for you" piece
  • Create small 'bites' of information & education about eXtension
  • Poll MSUE using a blog—who’s using what technologies/applications
  • Promote the use of webinars for professional development
  • Increase visibility of eXtension (Make eXtension visible on MSUE's web/portal)

Increase use of AaE

  • Design appropriate process for AaE
  • Consider AaE time commitment
  • Put AaE widget on each county website

Ensure Support Mechanisms/Quality Control

  • First, sign contract! Second, communicate our plan/goals/expectations
  • Identify barriers; Identify support mechanisms
  • Discuss collaboration; give permission; break down barriers
  • Create an E-learning & Design Team
  • Provide instructional design support, and how to convert to online
  • Remember & promote 2-way flow of information
  • Support time commitment for learning curve

  • Invite people to specific PD offerings pre-existing in eXtension
  • Have a monthly online learning topic
  • Develop training: 1) eXtension; 2) teaching with technology; 3) instructional design
  • Develop a series of eXt-learning in-services online, including experiential component
  • Have how-to sessions on AaE
  • Have how-to sessions on eXt CoPs
  • Distinguish between internal and external tools; explain their various uses
  • C.O.P.E. training: Create Once Publish Everywhere
  • Offer a web-conference on Liz's research

Provide Support to State-Wide Programs

  • Give focus area teams an orientation to eXtension
  • Have each focus area (statewide program area) connect to the relevant CoPs
  • Provide mentoring/coaching for teams’ use of eXtension tools
  • Create an online collaborative work space for each focus area or sub-team
  • Establish social networks for each focus area


Provide Reward & Recognition

  • Establish Director Award for technology usage
  • Reward/report eXtension involvement in MSUE
  • Feature eXtension success stories regularly in Spotlight
  • Integrate technology use into performance reviews
  • Link core competencies to technology; define competencies needed; reward
