My process for the tagging exercise
- Beth Kanter, beth@bethkanter.org
I decided to start with all the tags that were tagged with extag http://del.icio.us/tag/extag. I immediately noticed how different our professional interests were and whether this exercise might work better with a more similar group. Nonetheless, I dived in.
I went down the list and click on the keywords that I was interested ... for example - crowdsourcing - which brought me to Kevin's items tagged with crowdsourcing http://del.icio.us/k1v1n/crowdsourcing He had one, so I clicked over to popular http://del.icio.us/popular/crowdsourcing
I went through this list and added the ones that I thought were really good on the topic and included the "extag" so you can find them. By saving and then clicking onto "extag" I got back to our list of resources.
Next I found a resource tagged "4-h" and decided to see if there any resources tagged in delicious: http://del.icio.us/popular/4-H As you can see, none. There are items tagged with 4-H, they just haven't been including the "popular" rating: http://del.icio.us/tag/4-H. Not being a content expert in this area, I wondered if the resources here of better quality, already known, or at all useful to those with an interest in 4.H
I'm noticing how slow del.icio.us can be sometimes when searching all tags. This can get frustrating! I'm searching "youth development" and discovered that the results were too general. So, what I did was search on two tags - youth + agriculture http://del.icio.us/tag/agriculture%2Byouth
Now, I'm looking at the users who tagged items with "4-H" to see if I can find anything of interest http://del.icio.us/sgalthof
I wonder if people like this way of browsing, find it annoying or waste of time?
This article: http://blog.aafromaa.com/2007/05/blogging-policies-for-extension.html was tagged with extag plus blogging and policy. So, I searched for other resources with these two tags: http://del.icio.us/tag/blogging%2Bpolicy
This turned up an excellent list of resources on blogging policy -- I selected the ones that had been tagged by the highest number of users.
