Using Images in MediaWiki Transcript part 2
From Extension Collaborative Wiki
Now that our image is uploaded, we’re ready to place it in our document.
We begin by clicking on edit. We then select the text box, and type in the name of our image. Then we highlight that text exactly like we highlighted the text when creating hyperlinks. Then click on the embed image icon at the top of the edit text box. Please, note the double brackets that have been placed around the text. Once again, we want to describe the nature of our edits, and then save the page.
We now see our image displayed in our article, but it’s not particularly attractive. It appears on the left and above the text. With its white background, it blends into the page a little too much. It would also be helpful if the image had a caption, so we knew what it’s about. Fortunately MediaWiki gives us many options for formatting images. Unfortunately, they are not represented by an icon, so we’ll have to enter them by hand.
Let’s go back into our article, and place the image on the right, put a frame around it and then add a caption. We just add these options, following the file name, inside the brackets. Each option is separated by the pipe character. Within the image lesson on the Collaborate wiki, you’ll see exact syntax for how these commands are to be entered.
Once again, we want to describe the nature of our edits, and save our work. Now you can see our image displayed in our article, and it’s looking much more attractive.
Now it’s your turn to upload your images, and to format them, and embed them in your article.
