Conference AV and tech Requirements for Second Life

For expo table: Monitor, speakers and wired connection of sufficient bandwidth. Each computer running Second Life uses an average of 80 kbps downstream, spiking at about 400 kbps on initial connect and during teleports. Add hands-on user workstation, additional laptop (borrowed) and wired connection.


For breakout session SL demos: Projector,screen, powered speakers for the laptop, presenter mic and speakers, audience mic if room is large

For hands on breakout session: Projector, screen, lavalier mic(s) for presenter(s), T3 or fast ethernet line with a wired connection for each user laptop


For Mixed Reality Mixer: Performer in SL only: Projector and screen(s), wired connection of sufficient bandwidth for 3-5 computers, medium venue PA system, various cords/plugs to connect PA system to computers.

  • Additional requirements if there is also a Performer live in RL: performer brings own sound system,

a second projector/screen is helpful, and a simple staging area. sufficient bandwidth for outbound streaming.

  • For Streaming video into SL: video camera, microphone, tripod, laptop with video conversion software,

various connecting cables, quicktime live streaming server for hosting.
